Hey guys, Red Barron here! The wife and I took a trip up to the Rock Mountains in Colorado in early August to celebrate her getting over breaking her wrist in early June for some much-needed R&R!
Thanks to the wife’s research on her phone, she found out that Estes Park, Colorado had a beautiful lake where you could rent a boat and fishing gear and have a go at fishing in the Rockies! Now, I know there are certain people that have a superstition that women on a boat make for poor fishing, but to get a view like this and go fishing, I wouldn’t want her to miss out! So, we made the trek up into town, drove up to this beautiful lake, and proceeded to have a blast at over 6,000 feet!

For just $40 an hour for a fishing boat with a 9.9hp outboard and a couple of rods for $2 an hour each, along with 3 lures we bought at the marina, the 3 LURE CHALLENGE was born!
We putted around, enjoying the scenery and just having a wonderful time, not sweating one bit (which is much different from the Houston area climate). The wife had the first hit…it figures!
And then, along the dam, on a rooster tail, something slammed it! After an exciting fight and several minutes trying to remove the hook (it gets tough when the fish has teeth and you don’t have gloves or needle-nose pliers), we got a good picture of a nice brown trout!
After some more putting around, we headed back in to make a beautiful trip up the Trail Ridge Road through Rock Mountain National Park. If anybody is ever in the area and has a half day to kill, we definitely recommend it!
Follow along below, and enjoy our trip to beautiful Lake Estes, Colorado! We’ll see you next time on the water, and remember, yer’ not livin’ til yer’ Just Givin’er!
