Red Barron & Son Finally Get Back Out to Lake Conroe!

Hello all! We are finally back! The timing was right, the batteries were charged, it wasn’t a weekend with extra activities pre-planned, little wind, no rain… The timing was perfect. I spent all week getting the inevitable garage storage tub (aka, the boat) cleaned up and ready for only the 2nd outing of the year. Red Barron was finally heading out on another adventure, toting along his son to have some fun.

Bryce’s reaction after saying “Fried Fish”

When we arrived at the lake…at 10AM, following a laundry list of things set in place to stop us from achieving our ultimate goal, we put the boat in the water. As we were leaving, another angler offered 2 legal length white crappie and some minnows as they were done for the day and didn’t need them. We gladly accepted! We set out to the north side of the lake near Cagle Recreation area to a cove that always produces during the summer. The wind was blowing into the area, perfect for catching fish!

Telling Bryce about how the wind can push food around the lake

We settled into the cove, broke out some Nightcrawlers and bobbers, and took to town. Right off the bat, Bryce catches a catfish.

Excited about his fish!

Soon after, I catch another while messing around with his rod and my cell phone. Fish always seem to know when you’re distracted and not paying attention! Truth be told, some of the best fish I have caught was when I wasn’t paying attention, letting the bait sit longer than normal, letting it sink further, not over working the lure. Bryce was a big help with the net. Working like a pro already!

Of course, it was HOT! After a while, we decided it was time to cool down. Little did I know, this was Bryce’s sole mission on this trip! Follow along below as we have some fun at Lake Conroe! We will see you guys next time on the water! To God Be The Glory!
